Seven killed, four injured in jeep-truck collision

Sangrur, Feb 22 (UNI) Seven people were killed and four others seriously injured in collision between a jeep and a truck at Channo village under Bhawanigarh Police Station in this district last night, sources today said.

While six of them were killed on the spot, the seventh succumbed to his injuries at the Rajindra Government Medical College hospital at Patiala where the injured were admitted. The dead included two women.

The deceased were identified as Inderjeet Kaur (41), Chinder Kaur (40), Gurmel Singh (45), Satinder Singh(32), Roop Singh (40), Jeep Driver Jaswinder Singh (29) and Raju, who died in the Medical College hospital.

All of them along with a two-and-half-year old child were accompanying Inderjeet Kaur, who was ill, to a hospital here in the ill-fated jeep from Duga. The child was, however, reported to be safe.

The potato-laden truck was coming from Patiala side to Dirba in Sangrur district. The truck driver fled from the scene and was absconding, police said.
