Overseas workers to get training
New Delhi, Feb 22 (UNI) The Overseas Indian Affairs Ministry has sanctioned Rs one crore each to Kerala and Tamil Nadu for implementing its orientation-cum-training programme for overseas Indian workers.
Under the scheme, the OIA ministry will bear 75 per cent of the expenditure on training with a ceiling of up to Rs one crore per state.
Karnataka will get 84.39 lakh, Punjab Rs 65.61 lakh and Andhra Pradesh Rs 50 lakh under the scheme which seeks to upgrade the skill level of Indian emigrants at par with the overseas market requirement and equip them with a basic knowledge about the laws, language and culture of the destination country.
The scheme is being expanded in the next financial year in partnership with the ministry of Micro, Small and Medium enterprises to cover a larger number of trades, OIA ministry sources said here today.
