Washington, February 22 : A Santa Monica Superior Court judge has ordered veteran actor Omar Sharif to pay 318,000 dollars in damages to a car park attendant he punched in 2005.
Judge Joe W. Hilberman also ordered Sharif to pay costs and legal fees to Guatemalan valet Juan Anderson, the victim of his rage, bringing the total amount to be paid by him at 318,190 dollars.
The 'Doctor Zhivago' actor, who was representing himself, was not present in court when the judge awarded compensation to Anderson.
The incident took place when Sharif was leaving Mastro's Steakhouse in Beverly Hills, California, and he tried to pay Guatemalan valet Juan Anderson for his car in euros.
Upon being told by Anderson that euros were not a valid currency in the US, Sharif hit him in the head and called him a "stupid Mexican".
Sharif admitted his involvement in the incident last year, after which he was fined 100 dollars and ordered to take an anger management course.
In August 2003, the actor was found guilty of hitting a police officer at a casino near Paris, France.
