Kerala district launches e-tuition

Kozhikode, Feb 22 (UNI) In a novel venture, perhaps for the first time in the country, the Administration today launched online tuition for secondary school students in the district.

Launched in association with Kochi-based Learners Scholars at Nadakkavu, Meenchanda and Ashchavattom Higher Secondary Schools, the programme was aimed at improving D plus cateogry students of Class X District Collector A Jayathilak said.

Arranged after school hours, many students took part in the free programme uplinked from Kochi on a giant screen provided by the administration, he said.

The programme enabled the participant to interact with their instructors at Kochi as well.

The administration had also provided computer, projector and CD free of cost for the smooth conduct of the programme organised on public private participation basis.

The administration also proposes to extend the programme for other classes also, he said.

Ashchavattom Higher Secondary School Principal Beena Philipm, who was present in the class, told reporters that as many as 30 students who participated in the e-tuition today had evinced keen interest in the programme.

Dr Jayathilak said he hit upon the idea of launching the programme after his interaction with students during his visit to as many as 70 government schools in the district.

The students, through e-mail, also expressed their willingness to undergo such special sessions to improve their standards.

Learners Scholar, was also conducting similar programme for students in the US and Cananda and offered it's services free of cost.

Any number of schools with internet facility could join the programme, admission to which was voluntary, he added.
