Bangalore, Feb 22 (UNI) Karnataka Governor Rameshwar Thakur today said the government was bound by the High Court directive and would gear up for smooth transport of essential goods in view of the truckers strike starting from midnight today.

Speaking to the media after an executive meeting here, he said steps were taken to ensure smooth movement of essential commodities and provide protection to vehicles, if necessary.

Mr Thakur said the executive committee approved reduction in penalty fees for regularisation of sites in unauthorized layouts under Sakram scheme in the State.

He said the regularisation fees for unauthorised sites would be reduced up to 80 per cent for 20x30 sites while 60 per cent for 30x40 sites. The scheme would be finalised in the first week of April after calling for objections from the public in the next 30 days.

The Governor said the committee also approved to set up a Vocational Skill Development Corporation to develop skilled manpower in the state. The Corporation would also provide immigration facilities for the skilled personnel seeking jobs abroad, he added.
