Congress demands CBI investigation into Patan rape case
New Delhi, Feb 22 (UNI) The Congress today demanded that the sensational Patan rape case be entrusted to the Central Bureau of Investigation in the "interest of justice." AICC spokesman Manish Tewari told newspersons that the BJP government in Gujarat had been making "concerted effort" to hush up the case.
He termed as shocking the report that six teachers had been sexually exploiting a college girl at Patan for over six months before the victim reported the matter on February 4.
Mr Tewari alleged that two of the accused teachers were close to Gujarat Revenue Minister Anandi Patel, who is, in turn, close to Chief Minister Narendra Modi.
He said it was more condemnable that the girl belonged to a Dalit family.
Mr Tewari said Mr Modi refused to meet a group of girls who wanted to meet him in connection with the incident.
