UPA decides to write off Punjab farmers loans: Bhattal
Jalandhar, Feb 21 (UNI) The UPA Government in principle has decided to waive loans of Punjab farmers, said Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) president Rajinder Kaur Bhattal here today.
Talking to mediapersons this afternoon, Mrs Bhattal said the Congress-led UPA Government at the Centre had decided to waive loans of the state farmers, whose land holding were not more than five acres. The announcement in this regard would be made soon, she added.
Mrs Battal also informed that the state Congress would be organising a thanks giving rally, on February 25 in Delhi and also a charter of demand would be submitted to UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi for farm labourers and other people associated with farming. Nearly 20,000 Congress workers from Punjab would be taking part in the rally, she added.
The Congress would observe March 1, the first anniversary of the SAD (Badal) and BJP governement in Punjab, as Black Day, she said, adding that on this day, party workers would protest in all district headquarters and also a state-level rally would be organised at Ludhiana against the policies of the state government.
Regarding the restructuring of the party in Punjab, she said the organisational restructuring, which was delayed a lot, would be done after the Vidhan Sabha Session.
