Solidarity to launch agitation against CZM notification
Kozhikode, Feb 21 (UNI) The Solidarity Youth Movement in Kerala today said it would launch agitation and awareness campaign along coastal areas in the State against the proposed Costal Zone Manangement(CZM) notification by the Centre.
Talking to newspersons here, SYM General Secretary M Saajid said the draft notification aimed at boosting beach tourism, water sports, among others things, was detrimental to the intersts of the traditional fishermen in the country.
Criticising the government for the proposed move to publish CZM notification in the gazette after getting the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's nod, he said such an important issue, concerning a vast secton of people, merit proper debate in Parliament.
Mr Saajid said agitation annoucement meetings would be held at Ambalapuzha in Alappuza and Perumathura in Thiruvanthapuram districts tomorrow and February 25 respectively.
A similar meeting at Koottai in Malappuram district was inaugurated by SYM State President P Mujibrehman today, he said.
Besides, coastal awareness campaign against the movement would begin from Kasargod on February 23 and from Thiruvanthapuram on February 25, he added.
