Mumbai, Feb 21 (UNI) Practennis, the home for tennis in the suburbs that has produced a host of National, Davis Cup and state champions, has tied up with Kotak Mahindra Bank to launch the Kotak Mahindra Bank Tennis Academy.
This was announced by Director of Coaching Practennis, D S Ramarao in the presence of Marketing and Alliances Kotak Mahindra Bank VP Jaimit Doshi and General Secretary MSLTA Sharad Kannamwar at a press conference here today.
Elaborating on the association between Kotak Mahindra Bank and Practennis Dr Ramarao said, ''About 80 per cent of the ranked players in the state are training at Practennis, and the association with Kotak Mahindra Bank will give them an opportunity to widen their horizons. By subsidizing their expenditure, the academy will give the tennis trainees an opportunity to travel out of the city for more tournaments, gaining valuable exposure and experience.'' Under the banner of the Kotak Mahindra Tennis Academy, 16 selected trainees from Practennis will get a financial scholarship to help them towards meeting expenses incurred for training, kitting and traveling.
Under the scheme, the 16 trainees have been divided into three categories namely Platinum Group, Gold Group and Silver Group and will receive graded scholarships accordingly. The four trainees in the Platinum Group will receive Rs 1 lakh each per annum, while the four trainees in the Gold Group will receive Rs 75,000 each per annum and the eight trainees in the Silver Group will receive Rs 50,000 each.
Kotak Mahindra Bank will also provide financial support to Practennis for their expenses towards infrastructure, which will go into providing specialized training to the selected trainees.
Following are the selected trainees: Platinum Group: 1) Nikhil Kannan; 2) Prabhuti Singhania; 3) Aryan Goveas ; 4) Riddhi Hegde. Gold Group: 1) Dhir Gala; 2) Pranav Patole ;3) Shruti Archita; 4) Hitta Kotak.
Silver Group: 1) Aboli Gogaria; Baba Verma; Ishika Chakravarti; Slok Bolar; Rohan Sawant; Nihar Bhatawdekar; Aazan Maniyar; Bhishma Maistri.
Besides the 16 selected trainees, another batch of 12 trainees are being trained under different coaches and will stand to gain entry into the Kotak Mahindra Tennis Academy, based on their performance, as soon as any of the 16 selected trainees slip up or fail to perform up to expectations, he said.
The 16 selected trainees will be under the personal tutelage of D S Ramarao and Kiran Kumar for three hours, four days a week. They will also be provided special physical fitness training under Samson Sequeira. The physical fitness regime includes a session at Juhu Beach every Sunday at 0630 hrs, which will be around an hour fitness training after the sessions with Ramarao and Kiran Kumar.
