Air Maritius to introduce direct flight from Bangalore

Bangalore, Feb 21: Taking into consideration of the robust growth in the number of visitors to Mauritius from South India, country the Air Mauritius, the national carrier of the tiny island nation Mauritius, will operate a direct weekly flight from Bangalore from April this year.

Speaking to newsperson here today Mr Vijay Haulder, Deputy Director Mauritius tourism Promotion Authority, stated that with the increased growth in leisure travel from Southern part of the countyry to Mauritius, the Air Mauritius had decided to operate a direct flight from Bangalore from April this year.

He said that the number of tourists from India accounts five per cent of the country's total number overseas visitors and expects it to double by next five years. During 2007, as many as 47000 tourists from India visited Mauritius and 25 per cent of them were from South India.

"With the annual growth of 15 to 20 per cent of the tourism industry in Mauritius, several measures also taken to leverage the infrastructures including that of accommodation, recreation and other related facilities" Mr Vijay said.

He said that Mauritius already a preferred location for Bollywood movie shoots had worked out strategies to attract commercial cinema of South-India. Mauritius would offer special deals with selected identified vendors, hospitality partners and production facilities to ensure smoother ground operations. All production needs will be catered and taken care by the central body of Mauritius Film Development Co-operation for the Southern film producers once they decide to commence shooting in the tropical island, he said.

Mauritius, an established honeymoon retreat, also offer new adventure options like 'Walk with the Lions' at Casela Bird Park, Quad-Biking at L'Etoile nature reserve, Feeding Crocodiles at La Vanille reserve Des Mascareignes, Zipeline Rides at St Felix estate and Dolphin Cruise with an opportunity to swim with dosphis at Tamarin. New activities are being positioned along with conventional itineraries enabling an average tourist to discover new dimensions of the destination Mauritius. "With Visa on arrival facility even last minute holiday maker can make it to Mauritius which will be totally convenient and hassle free" he said.
