Six sent to jail in connection with Uranium recovery case
Supaul, Feb 20 (UNI) All the six people, arrested in connection with the recovery of Uranium worth Rs one crore from a bus stand under Birpur police station were sent to jail today.
District Superintendent of Police Shyam Kumar said here that all the six accused arrested yesterday, including a soldier of 18th battalion of SSB, were produced before Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate(SDJM) Anil Kumar Singh, who sent them to jail under judicial custody.
'' We have prayed before the court to hand over all the accused to police remand for two days for intensive interrogation, while the Magistrate will pronounce his order on the matter tomorrow, '' Mr Kumar added.
During the interrogation, police had found vital clues indicating involvement of several other people in the racket and they would soon be arrested, he said adding the seized consignment of the Uranium was being transported from Nepal.
'' We have approached the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre in Trombay and sought their guidelines for handling the Uranium, '' he said adding it was being sent to the concerned forensic laboratory for chemical test.
Earlier, a case against all the arrested was registered at Birpur police station, charging them with sedition and violation of laws relating to prohibition of carriage and transportation of materials used for atomic energy.
