Dubai, Feb 20 (UNI) India occupies the second place behind Australia in the latest LG ICC Test rankings, closely trailed by Sri Lanka in third place.
South Africa, who are on 108 points, have a chance to join Sri Lanka on 109. However, the Proteas will remain below Mahela Jayawardena's side in fourth place when the points are calculated beyond the decimal point.
The Proteas will, however, fall below fifth-placed England (107) if it loses the series against Bangladesh.
Meanwhile, Sachin Tendulkar is the highest ranked Indian batsman at the 12th spot. He is joined by compatriots Rahul Dravid (15th) and VVS Laxman (17th) in the top 20.
The top spot is occupied by Kumar Sangakkara of Sri Lanka while South African Jacques Kallis and Australian Mike Hussey are second and third on the list respectively. Aussie skipper Ricky Ponting is fourth while Pakistan's Mohd Yusuf is ranked fifth.
In the LG ICC Player Rankings for Test bowlers, Indian captain Anil Kumble dropped one place to sixth. Irfan Pathan (13th) and Zaheer Khan (18th) are the other Indians in the top 20.
Sri Lankan off-spinner Muttiah Muralitharan leads the pack.
He is followed by Dale Steyn of South Africa and Australia's Stuart Clark while Brett Lee is at number four.
In the all-rounders' list, Irfan Pathan is at number five.
Jacques Kallis of South Africa is at the number one spot, ahead of Andrew Flintoff of England.
Kiwi Daniel Vettori and Sri Lanka's Chaminda Vaas are at the third and fourth spots respectively.
