Hitler, Alexander, Frankenstein in fray for Meghalaya polls

Shillong, Feb 20 (UNI) Hitler, Alexander, Frankenstein, Admiral and Newton are some of the names of the 331 candidates contesting March 3 Assembly polls in Meghalaya.

Junior Lamin from War-Jaintia, BJP candidate Alexander Hek from Pynthorumkhrah constituency and Adolf Lu Hitler Marak (NCP) have all jumped into the fray.

Hilter Marak, who was once questioned in China for his name, is trying to make a comeback from Rangsakona constituency by defeating his archrival Zenith M Sangma of the Congress.

Educationist-turned-Congress candidate Frankenstein W Momin is contesting from Mendipathar against United Democratic Party (UDP) candidate Beninstand G Momin.

Admiral K Sangma (NCP), who is leading the opposition's battle in the House, would try to retain the Dalamgiri constituency.

Friday Lyngdoh, the octogenarian Congress candidate is confident to hold on to his seat from the Mawkhar Assembly seat and Hill State People's Democratic Party (HSPDP) supremo Hoping Stone Lyngdoh, who hoped for a separate Khasi-Jaintia state, was not sure whether to seek re-polls from his stronghold in Nongstoin.

He has also fielded Dr Adviser Pariong from Pariong constituency and pitted against sitting Congress legislator Irin Lyngdoh. Another HSPDP candidate, Romeo Phira Rani, is contesting from the high profile Laitumkhrah constituency.

Newton B Marak (UDP), an actor, is experimenting with his political luck to defeat sitting Congress legislator Debora C Marak from Rongrenggiri.

Meanwhile, Moonlight Pariat(NCP) is radiating in Jowai and Clever N Marak (Independent) is trying to outsmart senior Congress MLA from Songsak.

Traditional ruler and NCP candidate from Jirang constituency, Laborious Manik Syiem, is working hard to reap his victory poll. On the other hand, he BJP fielded Oral Syngkli, who believes in war of words to wrest power away from former chief minister J Dringwell Rymbai of UDP.

Forward Lyngdoh Mawlong of NCP is marching ahead in the campaign to win the Sohiong seat. UDP's Rain Augustine Lyngdoh, however, is going all out to dampen the ''campaign spirit'' of his opponents.

Boldness Nongum of Congress from Mairang constituency believes he has it to overcome the anti-incumbency factor and cross the electoral hurdle.

Process T Sawkmie (UDP) has slowly locked horns with Congress rival Founder Strong Cajee from Mawlai constituency. His Son Shylla (Ind) is spreading the mantra that he can deliver better than Union Tribal affairs Minister Patty Ripple Kyndiah's son in Nongkrem.

In this list are Hilarius Lyngdoh and Hilarius Pochen.
