Chandigarh, Feb 20 (UNI) Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda said that with a view to check the drop out rate in the schools and motivate the students belonging to Schedules Castes, an ambitious education promotion scheme costing Rs 280 crore would be implemented in the State from April this year.
The Chief Minister was addressing a gathering at a function organised by Sri Guru Ravi Dass Mahasabha here after inaugurating 2nd block of Guru Ravi Dass Bhawan here today.
The Chief Minister said that Haryana Government has decided to celebrate year 2008 as "Education Year" so that the knowledge of education should reach to everyone and illiteracy could be eradicated from the State.
He said that keeping in view that 70 per cent students upto 8th class belonging to Scheduled Castes left the school in the middle due to financial constraint, Haryana had launched a unique scheme of providing monthly scholarship ranging from Rs. 100 to Rs. 400 per month to the students belonging to scheduled castes.
Besides, they would also be given books, works books and stationery free of cost. A Ambedkar Chhattarvarti Scheme had also been implemented for the students belonging to Scheduled Castes and Backward Classes.
Mr Hooda said that Haryana is the first State in the country to implement Indira Gandhi Water Supply Scheme under which free water connections to 8 lakh families of the State belonging to Scheduled Castes would be given water connection and out of these 2 lakh such families had already been given water connections besides a 200 Liter water tank and a tape had also been provided to them.
While extending his greetings on the eve of Guru Ravi Dass Jayanti, Chief Minister said that Guru Ravi Dass had advocated for equal, classless society which was even relevant today.
He urged the people to follow the cherished ideals propogated by Guru Ravi Dass. The Chief Minister announced to provide a grant of Rs. 10 lakh to Sri Guru Ravi Dass Mahasabha Chandigarh for the construction of a hall.
He also honoured Kumari Madhulita and Ankur those had been selected in HCS (Judicial).
Speaking on the occasion, Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee President Phool Chand Mullana said the backlog in the government jobs was being filled besides 100 sq yards plots were also being given for the people belonging to Scheduled Castes and the people living below poverty line.
