Firing between farmers and police, no injuries
Fatehpur, Feb 20 (UNI) Irked over the arrest of farmer leader Narsingh Patel, a mob opened fire at the police at district court precincts here today.
According to Police Superintendent K K Sippal, Patel had been given only one-day permission for agitation at the district court.
However, he sat on an indefinite agitation and even refused talking to the district administration and district panchayat president.
When police arrested Patel for violating the orders, his supporters opened fire at the police.
Seeing the situation getting out of control, police fired in the air and shot tear gas shells to disperse the mob.
However, no one was wounded in the incident.
Later, the agitators blocked the road. Efforts were on to arrest them.
The farmers leader had been decrying the 'step-motherly' treatment of the Uttar Pradesh and central government towards farmers in Doaba of Fatehpur, which was facing a similar situation like drought-hit Bundelkhand.
