'Dweep Setu' passenger ship from Lakshadweep arrives
Mangalore, Feb 20 (UNI) After a gap of about 18 months, a passenger ship +Dweep Setu+ having the capacity of carrying 150 passengers from Lakshadweep arrived at the old port here today.
The ship will be anchored at the port till February 21 before beginning its return journey. The Ship would arrive in the city again on February 24.
Though no special permission was required to travel between Mangalore and Lakshadweep, the ship had stopped its service since last one and half years. Persons who travel frequently between two destinations and those who have business links with Mangalore and Lakshadweep were demanding for the recommencement of the ship service in vein for a long time.
Lakshadweep comprising of ten tiny islands was located at a distance of about 144 nautical miles away from Mangalore. The people of these islands were forced to depend on outside for all other commodities except for coconut and fish.
