Shillong, Feb 20 (UNI) Karnataka supercop-turned-MP HT Sangliana has blamed the Congress for projecting the BJP as 'communal party' and 'inimical' to Christians.
''The BJP is not anti-Christian as levelled by our political rivals. I am a Christian, but I preferred to join the party knowing that it is secular and clean,'' Mr Sangliana, who was deputed with the task to speak about the BJP's image to his Christian brethren.
Urging the people of Meghalaya and Nagaland to vote for the saffron party in the Assembly elections, the only BJP Christian MP said, ''the BJP would ensure all round development in the State. We assure to provide infrastructure for developing the State, which the Congress has failed to implement.'' He further asserted that if BJP's elected representatives are found not to be fit, corrupt or immature, then people could throw them out in the next elections.
Mr Sangliana also claimed that his party had made the country as well as the Northeast advance in many spheres during its four and half-year rule.
Mr Sangliana, a Mizo IPS officer from the Northeast, went on to win the Bangalore North MP constituency seat from Karnataka, following his extraordinary achievement in encountering dreaded sandalwood smuggler Veerapan, which led to the smuggler's death.
