Assam Rifles deployed in Nagaland for March 5 polls
Kohima, Feb 20 (UNI) Assam Rifles was deployed throughout Nagaland today to provide the security for the March 5 Assembly polls in the state.
This was informed at the meeting of the Cease Fire Monitoring Group (CFMG) between the Central government representatives and the NSCN-IM, held here yesterday.
Official sources said the meeting was held at the residential office of Chairman of the CFMG Lt Gen (Retd) R V Kulkarni at Kohima, where Maj Gen K S Sethi, Inspector General of Assam Rifles (North) informed the Assam Rifles personnel will be deployed from today with the aim to instil confidence in the local people and check the movement of the armed cadres of the underground factions.
The meeting also discussed some other matters in a cordial atmosphere. The meeting was attended by Nagaland Commissioner Toshi Aier, Nagaland Director General of Police (DGP) J Changkija and DIG, CRPF. A seven-member delegation of NSCN-IM, led by Cease Fire Monitoring Cell Convenor Phunthing Shimrang, attended the meeting.
