Jaipur, Feb 19 (UNI) The Rajasthan Congress has sought intervention from the party supremo and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi for Centre's grant of relief package to farmers for their cold wave and ground frost related crop damages in Rajasthan.
State party Vice President and former state Minister Dr Chandrabhan told reporters that around 2000 farmers from different districts of the state, would meet Ms Gandhi in New Delhi on February 21 to narrate their.
He said the farmers led by a party delegation would urge Ms Gandhi to urge the UPA Governemnt for immediate grant of relief package. The party would also urge Ms Gandhi to help in amending norms for inclusion of cold wave and ground frost related damages for grant of compensation under the Calamity Relief Fund.
Mr Bhan also rejected Rs 126 crore package announced by the Rajasthan government and said it was insufficient and demanded adequate compensation to all affected farmers.
He also demanded waiving of power bill dues on all agricultural connections for a period of six months since October last.
The Congress leader also condemned the Vasundhra Raje Government for effecting a fare hike in Rajasthan Roadway buses from yesterday and demanded that this hike should be rolled back immediately.
Meanwhile, the party had decided to hold a demonstration and Gherao at the state Assembly here on March 4 to protest against the Raje Government's "misrule and failures".
