Lucknow, Feb 19 (UNI) Women wrestlers from Meerut clinched five out of seven gold medals in the women's category decided in the 6th Uttar Pradesh State games here today.
Besides Meerut girls, wrestlers from Muzafarnagar (2), Lucknow (1), Gorakhpur (1), Bagpat (1), UP Police (1) and Azamagarh (1) also bagged golds in the Men's different weight categories.
Dheeraj Singh of Muzaffarnagar and Apoorva Tyagi of Meerut were later rewarded with a cash prize of Rs 2,000 each for their golden performance.
In the men's section, Dheeraj Singh and Gyanendra Singh of Muzaffarnagar lifted gold in 74 Kg and 60 kg categories respectively, while only gold for state capital was won by Pramod Kumar in 96 Kg category, Surendra Yadav (GKR hostel) 55 kg, Pankaj Rana (Bagpat) 66 kg, and Baliram Yadav of Azamgarh in above 96 kg also delighted with gold medals.
In the women's section, Gargi Yadav, Indu Chowdhary, Rita and Anshu Tomar of Meerut also lifted gold medals. The other gold in the women's section went to Saharanpur's Seema in the 51 Kg category.
The final encounter of the women's kabbaddi will be played between Muzaffarnagar and Gazipur, while in the boys final Kababaddi, Varanasi will challenge Gautambhuddha Nagar boys tomorrow.
In the women's football final match, Varanasi will take on Kanpur In the semi finals, Kanpur defeated Allahabd 2-1 and Varanasi beat Faizabad at 3-0.
