Govt Medical college at Mandi not feasible: Dhumal
Mandi, Feb 19 (UNI) Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal, today categorically rejected the demand of BJP MLAs and other party leaders for opening Government Medical College at Mandi, in view of the ongoing financial crisis.
Addressing party leaders, MLAs and workers at Vipasa Sadan at a ''Gratitude Expression'' function, Mr Dhumal said it was not feasible to set up a Government Medical College at Mandi, the central zone of the state, as it would require investment of Rs 100 crore.
He said the state was reeling under acute financial crisis. The income of the state was mere Rs 3000 crore while the expenditure was as high as Rs 7000 crore and after implementing the recommendations of the coming wage board report, the state expenditure would likely to escalate to Rs 85000 crore.
The Chief Minister said the BJP government would open four to five more private medical colleges in the state in its endeavour to make the state an educational hub.
