Lucknow, Feb 19 (UNI) The discovery of a 'tunnel' near the Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court this afternoon had sent the police into a tizzy.
Some workers discovered a tunnel shaped hole next to the Health directorate office and Chattar Manzil. They alerted the police.
''Long back, the Lucknow divisional commissioner's office was connected with the district magistrate's office through a tunnel.
The hole is possibly a part of the tunnel...no miscreant or terrorist would dig a tunnel on the main road,'' claimed a police official.
But additional director general of police (Crime, Law and Order and STF) Brij Lal told UNI that the hole was formed when a company was placing cables underneath. ''It is definitely not a tunnel,'' he asserted.
The Health directorate and the Commissioner's ofice are close to the High Court premises which gave way to speculations.
In November last year, the civil court premises in Lucknow, Varanasi and Faizabad were rocked by serial bomb blasts which had left 13 people dead and scores injured.
