Congress remembers former Chief Minister Beant Singh
Chandigarh, Feb 19 (UNI) On the 85th Birth Anniversary of former Chief Minister Beant Singh, Punjab Congress President Rajinder Kaur Bhattal paid rich tributes to him.
Mrs. Bhattal recalled the yeoman's service rendered by Beant Singh to usher in peace, progress and prosperity in the Punjab State, which had to suffer the onslaught of terrorism and turmoil for a more than decade.
Calling him 'harbinger of peace', she said that he had sacrificed his life for nation's unity and integrity.
She said that during Congress rule in the state in 1993, after 10 years of Presidents rule, Mr. Beant Singh had strengthened democracy at grassroot level by holding Panchayat, Panchayat Samitis and Zila Prishad elections.
