Accord classical language status to Telugu: YSR

Hyderabad, Feb 19: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy has urged the Union Tourism and Cultural Affairs Minister Ambika Soni to take steps to accord classical language status to Telugu.

According to an official release here yesterday, Dr Reddy spoke to the minister on phone and discussed the issue ahead of the high-level meeting scheduled to be held on the matter tomorrow in New Delhi.

The Chief Minister had already written a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on the issue on November 24, 2007, the release added.
