Vote counting begins in NWFP, adjacent areas

Peshawar, Feb 18 : Vote counting has started after polling concluded in the North West Frontier Province (NWFP) and adjacent tribal areas like other provinces of Pakistan.

An explosion was reported at a polling station in Bajaur tribal agency, while a man was killed in firing incident in Karak.

Foreign election observers visited polling stations at Peshawar, Naushehra and other areas.

The voters cast votes for four national and 11 provincial assembly seats in Peshawar. Large numbers of women voters were witnessed at many polling stations, but the turn out at some polling stations was lesser than the expected.

Foreign observers expressed satisfaction over polling arrangements in Peshawar and Naushehra.

Governor of NWFP Awais Ghani visited various polling stations of Peshawar.

Some incident of scuffles among political workers at various polling stations reported and 22 armed men of various political parties arrested.

Two rival factions exchanged fire during polling in Karak in which a man killed.

President PML (Q) Amir Muqam, former chief minister Akram Khan Durrani, Nazim Bannu Azam Khan Durrani, former Interior Minister Aftab Ahmed Sherpao and other leaders cast their votes.

In Charsadda four persons were wounded in clash between workers of two political groups at Yariband polling station.

Armed persons forcefully evicted polling staff and removed polling material from women polling station at Govt. Girls High Schoold Khar Ghalai, The News reported.
