MNS tirade against north Indians 'dangerous': Justice Sachar
New Delhi, Feb 18 (UNI) The head of a high-level committee on Muslims today said the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena's tirade against the north Indians was a dangerous trend that could spell disaster for the social fabric of the country.
''The MNS' movement against the north Indians and any such move to divide the people on the basis of their region, religion and language will be disastrous for the country,'' said Justice Rajinder Sachar, who headed a committee formed by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to assess the economic and educational status of the Muslims.
Calling it a dangerous trend, he said such moves should be nipped in the bud.
He said it was the responsibility of every government in a ''civilised State'' to look after the welfare of the minorities-- be it religious, ethnic or regional-- and ensuring equal rights to them.
Justice Sachar also termed as ''wrong'' the notion that the Sachar Committee exclusively looked into the status of Muslims.
''It was a rather comparative study of various minorities and the majority as well,'' he said.
He said the Committee has completed its task by submitting its recommendations to the government. ''It is now up to the government and the masses to ensure their implementation.'' Justice Sachar said public participation was necessary for effective implementation of various schemes of general welfare.
''It is the duty of every citizen to be aware of various government initiatives for the public welfare and should ensure these are implemented,'' he said.
Earlier, Justice Sachar released a special issue of a local Urdu daily 'Qayadat' on the Sachar Committee report and its implementation.
