Maintenance Community Meet, 2008, inaugurated
Jamshedpur, Feb 18 (UNI) The Maintenance Community Meet, 2008, jointly organised by the Tata Steel and Tata Quality Management Services, Pune, was inaugurated here today.
Addressing the gathering after inaugurating the meet, Tata Steel Chief Operating Officer H M Nerurkar said, ''There are mainly four challenges being faced by the maintenance community, including improving the equipment availability, retaining the best talent in maintenance fraternity, training and development of people and equipment life enhancement.'' He emphasised on the importance of implementing the best practices available with Tata Group of Companies and developing new best practices which could be a trendsetter for other industries.
In the key note address, vice-president (Shared Services), Tata Steel, Om Narayan spoke about the ethical values of the Tata Group and developing synergy among the group in the field of maintenance.
He elaborated on the different methods of maintenance and stressed upon the condition-based maintenance practice. He also emphasised the need for maintaining the pollution control equipment with highest availability so that green environment could be maintained.
The two-day symposium has been organised with the objective to create a forum for sharing the best practices in the field of maintenance amongst all the Tata Group of Companies.
The theme of the day's technical sessions were - Reliability Centred Maintenance, TPM (Total Productive Maintenance), Reliability Management in 220 KV Switch Yard by application of Silicon coating, group companies with the theme as Innovation in Maintenance Area.
About 77 representatives, including Tata Steel and TIS group Companies, Tata Steel Thailand and Natsteel Asia Pvt Ltd, Singapore, participated in two technical sessions where almost seven papers were presented.
