Mumbai, Feb 18 (UNI) Dynamic Duo overcame formidable Towering Titans in a crucial Group 'B' tie 4-1 to keep their hopes alive in the inaugural Yasin Merchant Classic Invitation Snooker Doubles Tournament at the Islam Gymkhana here today.
Dynamic Duo Devendra Joshi and Ashok Shandilya clinched a significant win while earning five vital points in the best-of-five frames contest. Towering Titans Geet Sethi and Aditya Mehta settled for one point.
The in-form Joshi held centre stage as he got off to a dream start and fired a break of 42 in the opening frame, before adding a 48 in the second and a 56 in the fifth and final frame.
''This win has brought us back into contention. We were up against tough opponents where Geet played a steady and safe game. Though, Aditya was not at his best. Both Ashok and I missed some easy shots, but I got a good start,'' explained Joshi. ''I was playing well and those breaks were crucial. These points have brought us back into the competition,'' he added.
In Group 'A', Super Siblings Meenal Thakur and Anuja Chandra registered a thrilling win over Junior Jacks Rishabh Pandya and Hasan Badami while earning three points. Junior Jacks earned two points.
Favourites for the title in Group 'A' Indian Lions Yasin Merchant and Alok Kumar continued their winning streak when they fashioned their fourth win in as many ties while crushing Cool Cats Lucky Vatnani and Amit Saboo. Lions earned six points to take their tally to 24 to remain on top of the group. Cool Cats were nil.
