All Police stations in Orissa to be fortified: Naveen

Bhubaneswar, Feb 18 (UNI) Oirssa Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today said all police stations in the state would be fortified and five more India Reserve Battalions will be created besides strengthening the Special Operation group (SOG) as an immediate step to counter the naxalite violence and lawlessness.

Making a statement in the state Assembly in the absence of the Opposition, which had walked out demanding a special debate on the naxalite attack, Mr Patnaik announced ten measures which would go a long way to counter any form of extremist violence and lawlessness.

The Chief Minister said all police stations and armouries in the state would be fortified under the fortification scheme.

He said already 98 police stations and 20 armouries had been covered under the fortification scheme and the fortification of the rest would be completed soon.

All available vacancies in Police Department would be filled up within the shortest possible time while an additional one thousand post would be created to strengthen the Special Operation Group (SOG) Moreover, about 1300 posts of Constables and Sepoys and 300 other ranks would be created for OSAP (Special Security) battalions for guarding the newly fortified police stations.

The state government, he said, would obtain sanction from the centre to create five more India Reserve battalions.
