Thumbi Devi, Nirupama Devi triumph

Kochi, Feb 17 (UNI) Central Reserve Police Force's (CRPF) Thumbi Devi and Nirupama Devi dominated on the concluding day of the 28th Senior National Judo Championship here today, bagging gold in the 48 kg and open categories respectively.

In the 48 kg women's category, Shuchika of Madhya Pradesh (MP) won the silver while the bronze was bagged by Vemven of Jharkhand and Jennita of Haryana.

In the women's open category, Aruna of Haryana got the silver while Garima Chaudhary of Uttar Pradesh (UP) and Bittu Sharma of MP won the bronze.

In the men's 60 kg category, Navjot Channa of Punjab clinched the gold while Ashwani of Haryana got the silver and C H Rasi Chandra of Manipur and V Bahadur Thapa of UP got the bronze.

In the men's open category, Yaima Singh of SSCB matted Pradeep of CRPF to get the gold, while Malkit from West Bengal and Anil Kumar of ITBP got the bronze.

Kochi Mayor Mercy Williams gave away the medals to the winners.

Kerala State Sports Council President T P Dasan presided over the function.

Around 700 judokas from 37 teams took part in the three-day event, organised by the Kerala Judo Association under the auspices of the Judo Federation of India.
