Adelaide, Feb 17 : Despite putting up an impressive show by its bowlers which restricted Australian team to just 203 runs in the stipulated 50 overs, India lost to Aussies by 50 runs as the batsmen were bundled out in 41.2 overs.
Chasing a target of 204 runs at Adelaide, a venue that has always been good for Team India, the Indian batsmen failed to register a win by scoring just 153 runs in the 7th ODI match of the ongoing Commonwealth Bank Tri Series here on Sunday.
Despite losing its first four batsmen-Sachin Tendulkar, Irfan Pathan, Gautam Gambhir and Rohit Sharma -- at 59 in 15.4 overs, at one time it looked Indian team would make a comeback in the match with its middle order batsmen.
Yuvraj Singh (26) and Mahendra Dhoni (37) tried to put up a little brave front with a partnership of 56. But their departure led to rest of the team members giving up their wickets one after another.
For his impressive knock of 79 runs off 108 balls, Australian Michael Clarke was declared the Man of the Match.
The Sunday's win has earned Australia a bonus-point that has made its total points to 17 out of the five games it has played so far in the series. India has eight points while Sri Lanka has six from four matches.
India takes on Sri Lanka next in crucial tie.
