Port Blair, Feb 16: The Port Blair Municipal Council (PBMC), lone civic body in Andaman, has announced curtailment of water in various areas here indicating a tough time for islanders this summer.

The Andaman PWD officials said that the drive was being carried out following the continuous depletion of the water level in the lone Dhanikari dam.

Since the municipal council is completely dependent on the supply received from APWD for further distribution to the consumers, the curtailment would be effected from February 18. The water would be made available to the people on every third day after that. A PBMC official release has also requested general public to use the water judiciously and bear with the inconvenience caused.

Andaman and Nicobar Islands were severely hit by water crisis last year due to less rainfall.
