Maran seeks release of arrested SCV operators
Chennai, Feb 16 (UNI) Dayanidhi Maran, former Union Minister and owner of SCV, a leading Multiple System Operator (MSO), today filed a police complaint alleging arrest and threatening of SCV operators asking them to change their cable TV signals to Hathway Cable and Datacom Private Limited.
Mr Maran, who had fallen out with Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi after publishing a suvey on heir-apparent to the DMK Chief, went to the Chennai City Police Commissionerate and submitted a petition to Commissioner G Nanjil Kumaran, seeking action against the police officials and trace the SCV operators missing since last night.
In his petition, a copy of which was released to the media, he said the SCV cable TV operators were taken into custody late last night without assigning any reason, in the jurisdiction of Joint Commissioner (South) Durairaj.
Police asked them to change their Cable TV signals to Hathway and threatened them with dire consequences like registration of false cases if they failed to do so, he added.
Describing this high-handed act of police as a clear violation of human rights and fundamental rights as enshrined in the Constitution, Mr Maran demanded action against the erring officials.
Several SCV cable operators picked up by the police were reported missing and their whereabouts were not known, Mr Maran said and appealed to the police to take steps to trace them.
