Una, Feb 16 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal today said his government had earmarked a sum of Rs 15 crore for creating necessary infrastructural activities in the state.
In all, 17 sports projects were under different stages of completion in the state for which Rs 8.66 crore had been provided during the current financial year, he said here after inaugurating Rs 241.72 lakh indoor sports stadium for badminton, volleyball, basketball, boxing, martial arts and multi-gym.
Mr Dhumal said 39 modern sports complex had been constructed all-over the state at a cost of Rs 14 crore, while indoor stadiums had been constructed at Shimla, Dharamsala, Bilaspur besides Una.
Outdoor stadiums were under construction at different sub-divisional headquarters to create quality sports infrastructure at that level, he said.
He said swimming pool construction work at Mandi was nearing completion and would soon be dedicated to sportspersons.
The Chief Minister said the state government was providing reservation to sportspersons at the rate of three per cent in all the government recruitments and 131 such sportspersons have been benefitted.
Outstanding sportspersons were also being conferred sports honours which included the ''State Parshu Ram Award'' while seven players in different games were awarded 'Arjun Award' by the Centre for their outstanding performances in their respective sports, he said.
He said this had given renewed momentum to sports activities in the state besides encouraging the young and budding sports persons to exhibit the best of their sports talents.
