Exiled Tibetans gear up for anti-Beijing Olympics march

By Staff

Dharamsala, Feb 16 : Exiled Tibetans living in India have announced plans to march from Dharamsala to Tibet to protest against the Olympic Games in Beijing.

Five leading Tibetan organizations are organizing the march, holding seminars, workshops and meetings to ensure the success of this non-violent campaign against China.

B. Tshering, the President of the Tibetan Women's Association, said the march is important as it will allow Tibetans to understand the true significance of the movement.

"We want everyone involved in this to understand the significance of this march and also to let people know that it is going to be a completely non-violent movement by Tibetans. It's a Tibetan People's Movement," she said.

Karma Yeshi, a member of the Tibetan Parliament in-exile, said the meeting would discipline participants.

"To have such an organised peace march, these meetings are very important so that we can train grassroot leaders. These leaders further go to their respective settlements and tell the participants how to take part in the march so that it becomes very successful," he said.

The march will commence on March 10 on the occasion of Tibetan Nationalprising Day.

India has been home to exiled Tibetans since the Dalai Lama, their spiritual leader fled Tibet in 1959.
