Two PMC MLAs court arrest over fuel hike
Puducherry, Feb 15 (UNI) Two MLAs belonging to the Puducherry Munnetra Congress (PMC) and a large number of party volunteers courted arrest after they put up a road blockade in protest against the fuel price hike at the Kamaraj Statue, here this evening.
The agitaters demanded rollback of the prices with immediate effect.
Earlier, they took out a demonstration from the party office to the statue, condemning the price hike, announced by the Centre yesterday.
In a statement here, party Spokesman K Lakshminarayanan, MLA, said the petrol price hike, which would have a cascading effect on the prices of essential commodities, would severely hit the middle class people.
Though the Centre had claimed that it was a meagre increase, it would be an added burden on the shoulders of the common man and hence, the hike should be withdrawn.
The PMC youth wing would resort to a road bloackade here this evening to condemn the hike, he added.
