Two Congress leaders suspended in Tripura
Agartala, Feb 15: The Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) has suspended two rebel Congress leaders for contesting against the Congress-INPT-PDS combine's official aspirants in two Assembly constituencies for the February 23 elections.
TPCC president Samir Ranjan Barman said here today that after getting approval of the AICC, the state committee had conveyed the decision to the persons concerned and threatened the dissident leaders to work in accordance with the party constitution.
Abdul Matin Choudhury, a TPCC member, had filed his nomination papers for Kurti Assembly constituency in North Tripura defying the party's 'request' and remained in the fray as an Independent candidate along with the Congress official candidate - Narul Haque.
Another TPCC member - Premtosh Nath - was also contesting the Sabroom Assembly constituency in South Tripura along with the Congress-led alliance official nominee PDS leader Bibhash Saha.
Despite the hope of winning the elections, the Congress was now facing a challenge from the Left Front because of the Independent candidates from the party, Mr Barman indicated, adding that as per the decision of the AICC both the rebel leaders were suspended for violating the party's decision.
He also claimed that the Congress-INPT-PDS combine would come to power in Tripura and alleged that the Left Front had failed to generate employment and ensure security of the people.
