President visits remains of historical Nalanda Univarsity
Biharsharif, Feb 15 (UNI) President Pratibha Devi Singh Patil today visited the ''remains'' of historic Nalanda University, the ''seat of knowledge'' in ancient times.
During her visit, Ms Patil expressed interest to know about the historical facts of the Nalanda university, the acclaimed premier educational institution during the ancient period.
Superintendent of Archaeocholgical Survey of India Dr Phanikant Mishra, who had accompanied Ms Patil as guide, briefed her about the great Chinese Traveller Huan Tsang who had studied in Nalanda University and also taught there during his visit to India.
She was also shown the road map drawn for development of 200 villages adopted by the proposed Nalanda University--an initiative of the Bihar government for regaining the lost glory of the ancient University.
Bihar governor R S Gavai, state art and culture minister Janardan Singh Sigriwal, Chief Whip of the ruling JD(U) in State Assembly Shrawan Kumar also accompanied the President during her visit to the historical site.
