'EC notice to Sonia not a frivolous matter' : BJP
New Delhi, Feb 15 (UNI) Taking cognisance of the Election Commission issuing a notice to Congress President Sonia Gandhi seeking her explanation to the petition questioning her allegiance to the country following the bestowing of the highest Belgian civilian honour on her, the BJP today said it was not a frivolous matter as the Congress wanted it to appear.
BJP spokesman Rajiv Pratap Rudy in a statement said the EC had taken notice of the petition of a Kerala advocate P Rajan questioning the Congress President's allegiance to India and the country could not close its eyes to the fact. He said Mrs Gandhi should come out categorically on her allegiance to the nation to come clean on the issue.
She had to relinquish her Lok Sabha membership and get reelected following the 'office of profits' controversy after the EC took notice of the petition against her and now she was served with a fresh one.
''We want to know why is it that she is always a suspect when it comes to allegiance to India?'' Mr Rudy asked.
