Hyderabad, Feb 15 (UNI) Chandigarh Hockey Academy defeated Punjab 2-1 to enter the semi-finals of the Junior National (U-18) Hockey championship being played at SAAP Hockey complex, Gachibowli, here today.
Chandigarh Hockey Academy and Punjab fought tooth and nail and were locked 1-1 at full time. Chandigarh took the lead when Harmandeep Singh scored, while Jaswinder Singh restored parity for Punjab.
As the match spilled into extra-time, tension prevailed in both the camps. Chandigarh Academy's forward Harvinder Singh, however, outwitted the defence and scored the golden goal in the sixth minute of the first half, much to the chagrin of Punjab team.
In the semi-finals on Sunday, SAIL would meet Bihar while Andhra would encounter Chandigarh Hockey Academy.
Results: SAIL bt Mumbai 2-0, Bihar bt Jarkhand 3-2, Andhra bt Tamilnadu 2-1, Chandigarh Hockey Academy bt Punjab 2-1(1-1).
