BSF modernisation project to be completed by 2010 over: IG
Tiruchirapalli, Feb 15 (UNI) The Rs 2,300 crore modernisation project for the Border Security Force (BSF), which commenced in 2002 would be completed by 2010, according to Inspector General (provisions) Virendra.
Addressing a press conference here yesterday, he said 50 per cent of the work on the project has been completed. The project comprised over 30 per cent allocation to weaponry modernisation and acquisition and the remaining to procure surveillance equipments, water craft and other vehicles, he added.
The central force would procure canons, light machine guns and other weapons. The BSF had placed orders at Ordnance Factory Trichy (OFT) for the development and supply of assault rifles, capable of handling Close Quarter Battles (CQB), Mr Virendra.
With over 1,000 kms sea border fast attacking aircraft and Floating Border Outposts (FBO) would be strengthened, he added.
