Agartala, Feb 14: The Tripura election authority has suspended two school teachers and initiated an inquiry against a professor of Tripura University for their involvement in political activities in the state ahead of February 23 Assembly election.
State Chief Electoral Officer G S G Ayyangar said here today the two teachers from South Tripura had ''involved'' their students in the rallies of ruling party early this month.
Earlier, one teacher of Amarpur sub-division in South Tripura had been suspended for mobilising students in an election rally last month.
The District Magistrate was asked to submit the investigation report to find out whether the teachers had sent the students to participate in the political rallies, Dr Ayyangar said.
He said the ruling Left Front had complained against the professor of Tripura University, who was campaigning for the Congress in West Tripura.
The Returning Officer of the constituency was directed to privide a report with supporting documents.
According to the Election Commission, no government employee can be directly or indirectly involved in political activities.
