Lucknow, Feb 14: Uttar Pradesh Assembly Speaker Sukhdev Rajbhar today directed the state government to expedite the long-pending settlement of boundary dispute with Haryana state which arose due to change of course of river Yamuna.
The direction from the chair came after the government accepted that the matter had been pending since 1975, when the Centre had set up Dikshit Commission to evolve permanent solution of the problem.
Rashtriya Lok Dal member Kokab Hamid said the dispute had developed much animosity between the farmers of the two states and the government was helpless. Residents of several villages in Baghpat district had to face problems due to this, he said.
Revenue Minister Phagoo Chauhan said the officer level meeting was on between the two states while the survey as per Dikshit award was underway.
Leader of opposition Mulayam Singh said during his regime, the Chief Minister level talks had taken place but subsequent follow up action by the present government was missing.
The Speaker said the issue should be resolved soon and directed the government to expedite the settlement process.
RLD members, still dissatisfied, staged a walkout from the House.
