NRI,another shot dead in Punjab
Moga, Feb 14 (UNI) Unidentified alleged contract killers shot dead an NRI, a day before his marriage ceremony, and his cousin near Nihalsingh Wala in Punjab last night.
According to police, the incident occurred when Toronto based NRI Jasbir Singh and his maternal uncle's son, Harpreet Singh of Chakar village in Ludhiana district, along with four other relatives, were going to their native village Saidoke in a Tata Sumo after performing the marriage ceremony of Jasbir's sister, also an NRI, in Nihalsingh Wala.
A Honda car City followed them from Nihalsingh Wala and later after overtaking their car fired the gun shots at them. Jasbir and Harpreet, who were hit by the bullets, were immediately rushed to Nihalsingh Wala Civil Hospital but the doctor declared them brought dead.
Police immediately rushed to the spot and chased the assailants upto Dyalpura Bhaika, but the killers managed to escape.
Jasbir and his sister had come to India for their marriage.
While his sister was married yesterday, his marriage was fixed for today.
Jasbir's father, Nirmal Singh, in his complaint to police had alleged that a girl Aman and her brother Sewak, both residing in Tornoto, had hired the killers for murdering his son as Aman wanted to marry his son but Jasbir declined the proposal. The girl's parents are based in Gonsgarh village of Ludhiana district.
The police have registered a case against the girl and her brother and further investigating the matter.
