Gen Moeen to visit India on Feb 24

Dhaka, Feb 14 (UNI) Bangladesh Army Chief General Moeen U Ahmed is expected to make an official visit to India later this month, the local media reported.

During the week-long visit from February 24 to March 2, Mr Ahmed will hold meetings with Indian Army Chief General Deepak Kapoor, Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Sureesh Mehta, Chief of Indian Air Force Air Chief Marshal Fali Homi Major and other officials of the Indian government.

The visit is being considered significant as the army-backed caretaker government in Bangladesh is currently carrying out various important tasks, including anti-corruption drives, reforms and proceeding towards the general elections by December this year, The Daily Star reported.

Mr Ahmed was scheduled to visit India last year but had postponed it due to his preoccupations. This time it is almost confirm and officials concerned are making arrangements of his tour.

However, dates and time of his meetings are yet to be finalised, it said.

Mr Ahmed wil also call on President Pratibha Devisingh Patil, Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee and Defence Minister AK Antony during the visit.

The army chief is also expected to visit Ajmeer Sharif and the Tajmahal in Agra, according to reports.
