Gehlot demands compensation for victims' families of water pollution
Jaipur, Feb 14 (UNI) Former Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot today held the BJP government responsible for the death of nine people help due to consumption of contaminated drinking water, while demanding compensation to the victims'families.
Addressing a press conference here, Mr Gehlot said the state government should be ashamed of its failure in taking effective steps to prevent the spread of water-borne diseases in the city, adding, it should pay a minimum compensation of rupees two lakhs to the families of the victims.
He said till now, nine lives have been lost and people were still reporting to hospitals with diseases like diarrhoea and jaundice while the government has been washing away its hands of by claiming that the deaths were not caused by contaminated water. He said the insensitivity of the state government could be gauged from the fact that neither the chief minister nor any of the other ministers bothered to visit the affected areas.
He demanded the government to make public the details of Rs 4000 crore spent on drinking water schemes in the state during the last four years.
