Demonstration against closure of Shalinee Studio
Kolhapur, Feb 14 (UNI) Marathi film industry artists and technicians, accompanied by citizens, today staged a demonstration in front of the city's Shalinee Studio to oppose its closure.
The agitation organised under the banner of the Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Chitrapat Mahamandal (ABMCM) was led by ABMCM President Ajay Sarpotdar and Vice President Subhash Bhurke.
The agitators marched to the agitation site from ABMCM office, shouting slogans against the studio owner's plan to close the studio and sell its land. Later, they submitted a memorandum to the Kolhapur mayor and district collector.
Speaking to reporters, Mr Sarpotdar said the studio owner planned to close the studio on the pretext that it was not running in profit. The studio has in the last 74 years witnessed shootings of several Marathi films besides Hindi, Telgu, Tamil, Kannada, he added.
ABMCM is ready to run the studio as large number of workers will be left jobless by its closure, he said, adding that they will intensify their agitation if their demand is not fulfilled.
