Peshawar, Feb 14 : Authorities in Khyber Agency of Pakistan on Thursday started a massive crackdown for 'abducted' Pakistani Ambassador to Afghanistan Tariq Azeezuddin.

Six members of the Junda Khel tribe have been arrested under the Collective Responsibility Act by authorities, The News reported.

According to authorities, the Junda Khel Tribe picked up the Pakistani envoy in Jamrud subdivision of Khyber Agency.

Despite of no jirga being in session, the political authorities are in contact with the tribal elders and are pressurizing them to negotiate.

Yesterday, Azeezudin's car was spotted in the remote Teigah Valley in Khyber Agency.

On February 13, the Pakistan Foreign Office had said that Azeezuddin was still alive and efforts were being made to find him.

"I cannot confirm that Taliban are holding the envoy and had demanded that a senior militant commander captured recently, be released in exchange," Foreign Office spokesman Muhammad Sadiq had said.

Ambassador Azizuddin was heading towards Kabul with his driver and security guard when he disappeared in the Khyber tribal district bordering Afghanistan on Monday.

Sadiq had said that no one had so far claimed responsibility for abduction and dismissed a report that Taliban militants wanted to swap the envoy for top commander Mullah Mansoor Dadullah.
