Lahore, Feb 13: PPP Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari has said "we desperately need Nawaz Sharif at this moment to save the country. If all the democratic forces are not united at this time, it would be dangerous for the country."

Zardari and former premier Nawaz Sharif have pledged to jointly struggle for saving Pakistan from 'usurpers". They were talking to the media after holding a meeting at Sharif"s residence here in Model Town. Zardari said the unification of democratic forces was the need of the hour and the PPP would go together with all the democratic forces even if it gained majority in the upcoming polls. When asked about his message to the establishment after meeting Sharif, Zardari said: "My message is that we want to change the system now."

To a question how to counter the government"s rigging plan, he said both the parties had informed each other about their reservations regarding election rigging and would decide how to counter it.

Zardari also praised Sharif for visiting Naudero after Benazir"s assassination and said both the families would share their joys and sorrows together.

Sharif said 'all the democratic forces must get united to restore the 1973 Constitution."

"We can"t lose Pakistan for the military generals, either it is generals or Pakistan, we have to decide now," Sharif said while responding to a query.

Sharif said all the problems the country faced were the result of the uniform.

Commenting on seat adjustment with the PPP, Sharif said the parties have made adjustment at some places and whenever they consulted each other over the issue, they got results.

However, he said, after the elections all democratic forces should be united.

Earlier, talking to reporters at Bilawal House, Zardari accused the establishment of forcing the party into making tough post-poll decisions and warned that his party knew how to hit back in case of rigging.

Zardari declared his visit to Punjab as vital to carry forward Mohtarma"s mission.

"Many Punjabis were martyred along with Benazir in Rawalpindi," he recalled and observed that the PPP had struggled for Pakistan"s survival and had a major role to play in the future.

The News quoted Zardari as saying that the four provinces will not accept anything less than democracy now.
