New Delhi, Feb 13 (UNI) Janata Party President Subramanian Swamy today urged President Pratibha Patil to advise Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to scrap the Sethusamudram Ship Channel Project (SSCP) if no other ship route other than breaching Ramasethu was feasible.

Presenting his petition before the President, Dr Swamy said the President should summon papers of this project under Article 78 of the Constitution and advise the PM to scrap the project which was not economically viable, environmentally disastrous besides posing a risk to national security.

He contended that the Tamil Nadu Government's objections to his petition filed against SSCP before the Supreme Court had become 'null and void' after its affidavit filed in the Jallikattu stating that strict application of laws on prevention of cruelty of animals was not possible as it would hurt public sentiments. Now it hardly matters if Ramasethu is a natural formation or manmade structure because billion Hindus would be deeply hurt by breaching it.

Dr Swamy also attached the copies of statement of President of All India Organisations of Imams of Mosques opposing the demolition or damage to Ramasethu precisely on the ground that it would hurt the religious sentiments. Ramasethu is a holy Hindu site and cannot be damaged any way, he said.
